хато ва̄ пра̄псйасі сварґам̇
джітва̄ ва̄ бгокшйасе махı̄м
тасма̄д уттішт̣га каунтейа
йуддга̄йа кр̣та-ніш́чайах̣
hato vā prāpsyasi svargaṁ
jitvā vā bhokṣyase mahīm
tasmād uttiṣṭha kaunteya
yuddhāya kṛta-niścayaḥ

Translation

О сину Кунтı̄, або ти загинеш на полі бою і досягнеш небесного царства, або завоюєш царство земне і будеш втішатись ним. Отож, наберись рішучості і бийся.

O son of Kuntī, either you will be killed on the battlefield and attain the heavenly planets, or you will conquer and enjoy the earthly kingdom. Therefore, get up with determination and fight.

Незважаючи на непевність перемоги, Арджуна був зобов’язаний стати до бою; навіть загинувши, він досяг би райських планет.

Even though there was no certainty of victory for Arjuna’s side, he still had to fight; for, even being killed there, he could be elevated into the heavenly planets.
