athāgha-nāmābhyapatan mahāsuras
teṣāṁ sukha-krīḍana-vīkṣaṇākṣamaḥ
nityaṁ yad-antar nija-jīvitepsubhiḥ
pītāmṛtair apy amaraiḥ pratīkṣyate

Translation

Mi querido rey Parīkṣit, entonces apareció en aquel lugar un gran demonio llamado Aghāsura, cuya muerte era ansiada hasta por los semidioses. Pese a que beben néctar todos los días, los semidioses tenían miedo del gran demonio y anhelaban su muerte. Aquel demonio no podía soportar que los pastorcillos de vacas disfrutasen de tanto placer trascendental en el bosque.

My dear King Parīkṣit, thereafter there appeared a great demon named Aghāsura, whose death was being awaited even by the demigods. The demigods drank nectar every day, but still they feared this great demon and awaited his death. This demon could not tolerate the transcendental pleasure being enjoyed in the forest by the cowherd boys.

Podríamos preguntarnos cómo es posible que los pasatiempos de Kṛṣṇa se viesen interrumpidos por un demonio. Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura responde a esa pregunta diciendo que, si bien no era posible interrumpir el placer trascendental de los pastorcillos de vacas, también es cierto que, si no interrumpían el placer trascendental de sus diversas actividades, no podían tomar el almuerzo. Por esa razón, yoga-māyā dispuso que Aghāsura llegase a la hora del almuerzo, de forma que los niños dejasen a un lado sus actividades durante un momento y pudieran tomar su almuerzo. En la variedad está el gusto. Los vaqueritos jugaban todo el tiempo, interrumpían su juego y seguían jugando de otra manera. One may ask how Kṛṣṇa’s pastimes could be interrupted by a demon. Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura answers this question by saying that although the transcendental pleasure being enjoyed by the cowherd boys could not be stopped, unless they stopped the transcendental pleasure of their various activities they could not eat their lunch. Therefore at lunchtime Aghāsura appeared by the arrangement of Yoga-māyā, so that for the time being they could stop their activities and take lunch. Changing varieties is the mother of enjoyment. The cowherd boys would continuously play, then stop, and then again enjoy in a different way. Therefore every day a demon would come and interrupt their sporting pastimes. The demon would be killed, and then the boys would engage again in their transcendental pastimes.
