एवं स्वभरणाकल्पं तत्कलत्रादयस्तथा ।
नाद्रियन्ते यथापूर्वं कीनाशा इव गोजरम् ॥ १३ ॥

Tradução

Seeing him unable to support them, his wife and others do not treat him with the same respect as before, even as miserly farmers do not accord the same treatment to their old and worn-out oxen.

Vendo-o incapaz de sustentá-los, sua esposa e outros não o tratam com o mesmo respeito de antes, assim como fazendeiros avaros não concedem o mesmo tratamento a seu gado velho e ocioso.

Comentário

Not only in the present age but from time immemorial, no one has liked an old man who is unable to earn in the family. Even in the modern age, in some communities or states, the old men are given poison so that they will die as soon as possible. In some cannibalistic communities, the old grandfather is sportingly killed, and a feast is held in which his body is eaten. The example is given that a farmer does not like an old bull who has ceased to work. Similarly, when an attached person in family life becomes old and is unable to earn, he is no longer liked by his wife, sons, daughters and other kinsmen, and he is consequently neglected, what to speak of not being given respect. It is judicious, therefore, to give up family attachment before one attains old age and take shelter of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. One should employ himself in the Lord’s service so that the Supreme Lord can take charge of him and he will not be neglected by his so-called kinsmen.

Não somente na era atual, mas desde tempos imemoriais, ninguém mostra afeição a um velho incapaz de ganhar dinheiro para a família. Mesmo na era moderna, em algumas comunidades ou estados, administra-se veneno aos anciãos para que eles morram o mais rápido possível. Em algumas comunidades de canibais, o velho avô é morto esportivamente, e se faz um banquete no qual seu corpo é comido. Dá-se o exemplo do fazendeiro que não gosta do gado velho e ocioso. Analogamente, quando uma pessoa apegada à vida familiar envelhece e se torna incapaz de ganhar dinheiro, ela não é mais querida por sua esposa, filhos, filhas e outros parentes, e, consequentemente, é menosprezada, para não falar de que não se lhe oferece nenhum respeito. É sensato, portanto, abandonar o apego familiar antes de a velhice chegar e refugiar-se na Suprema Personalidade de Deus. Devemos empregar-nos a serviço do Senhor para que o Senhor Supremo encarregue-Se de nós e não sejamos menosprezados por nossos supostos parentes.
