Translation

Wie aan deze drie poorten van de hel ontkomen is, o zoon van Kuntī, verricht activiteiten die bevorderlijk zijn voor zelfrealisatie; zo bereikt hij geleidelijk aan de allerhoogste bestemming.

The man who has escaped these three gates of hell, O son of Kuntī, performs acts conducive to self-realization and thus gradually attains the supreme destination.

Men moet heel goed oppassen voor deze drie vijanden van het menselijk leven: lust, woede en hebzucht. Hoe meer men bevrijd is van lust, woede en hebzucht, des te zuiverder wordt zijn bestaan. Men kan dan de regels en bepalingen volgen die in de Vedische literatuur worden voorgeschreven. Door de regulerende principes van het menselijk leven te volgen, kan men geleidelijk aan tot het niveau van spirituele bewustwording komen. Wie zo fortuinlijk is dat hij door zulke oefening tot het niveau van Kṛṣṇa-bewustzijn komt, is verzekerd van alle succes.

In de Vedische literatuur wordt het systeem van acties en reacties voorgeschreven, waardoor men in staat zal zijn gezuiverd te worden. De hele methode is gebaseerd op het opgeven van lust, hebzucht en woede. Door kennis over deze methode te cultiveren, kan men tot het hoogste niveau van zelfrealisatie verheven worden; deze zelfrealisatie vindt haar bekroning in devotionele dienst. In die devotionele dienst is de bevrijding van de geconditioneerde ziel gewaarborgd. Volgens het Vedische systeem zijn er daarom vier orden en vier sociale klassen ingesteld, die het systeem van de vier spirituele levensorden en de vier sociale klassen of kasten wordt genoemd. Voor deze verschillende kasten of geledingen van de samenleving bestaan verschillende regels en bepalingen en iemand die in staat is deze te volgen, zal vanzelf tot het hoogste niveau van zelfrealisatie komen, waarna hij ongetwijfeld bevrijding zal bereiken.

One should be very careful of these three enemies to human life: lust, anger and greed. The more a person is freed from lust, anger and greed, the more his existence becomes pure. Then he can follow the rules and regulations enjoined in the Vedic literature. By following the regulative principles of human life, one gradually raises himself to the platform of spiritual realization. If one is so fortunate, by such practice, to rise to the platform of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, then success is guaranteed for him. In the Vedic literature, the ways of action and reaction are prescribed to enable one to come to the stage of purification. The whole method is based on giving up lust, greed and anger. By cultivating knowledge of this process, one can be elevated to the highest position of self-realization; this self-realization is perfected in devotional service. In that devotional service, the liberation of the conditioned soul is guaranteed. Therefore, according to the Vedic system, there are instituted the four orders of life and the four statuses of life, called the caste system and the spiritual order system. There are different rules and regulations for different castes or divisions of society, and if a person is able to follow them, he will be automatically raised to the highest platform of spiritual realization. Then he can have liberation without a doubt.
