dadāha girim edhobhiḥ
samantād agnim utsṛjan

Translation

Embora soubesse que Eles estavam escondidos na montanha, Jarāsandha não conseguiu encontrar nenhum vestígio dEles. Portanto, ó rei, ele dispôs lenha em todos os lados e ateou fogo na montanha.

Although he knew They were hiding on the mountain, Jarāsandha could find no trace of Them. Therefore, O King, he placed firewood on all sides and set the mountain ablaze.

SIGNIFICADO—Fica evidente que estamos observando um dos passatempos transcendentais do Senhor Supremo. Embora o Bhāgavatam afirme que os dois Senhores, Kṛṣṇa e Balarāma, estivessem “exaustos”, Eles, mesmo em Seu dito estado de exaustão, foram capazes de subir rapida­mente em uma montanha alta e, logo depois, saltar de lá de cima até o chão. Não seria sensato nem lógico ignorarmos o quadro completo que os sábios nos dão aqui para, em vez disso, tentarmos extrair descrições isoladas. É claro que estamos a assistir à Supre­ma Personalidade de Deus no meio de Seus passatempos espirituais; não estamos observando um ser humano comum. O Senhor Kṛṣṇa e o Senhor Balarāma eram ainda muito jovens quando aconteceu este passatempo, e podemos ver facilmente por estas descrições como Eles deviam estar Se divertindo, fugindo ansiosos do um tanto ridí­culo rei Jarāsandha, subindo correndo em uma montanha e pulando dali, deixando totalmente desnorteado o demônio que falhava sempre e que, de um modo ou de outro, jamais perdia a confiança em si próprio. Vistos sem inveja nem hostilidade, os passatempos do Senhor são por demais divertidos.

Clearly we are observing one of the Supreme Lord’s transcendental pastimes. Although the Bhāgavatam states that the two Lords, Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma, were “exhausted,” even in Their so-called exhausted state They were able to quickly climb a high mountain and shortly thereafter jump off it to the ground. It would be unwise and illogical to ignore the whole picture the sages are giving us here and instead try to pick apart isolated descriptions. Clearly we are watching the Supreme Personality of Godhead in the midst of His spiritual pastimes; we are not observing an ordinary human being. Lord Kṛṣṇa and Lord Balarāma were still quite young men when this pastime took place, and one can easily see in these descriptions how They must have been enjoying Themselves, eagerly fleeing from the somewhat ridiculous King Jarāsandha, racing up a mountain, jumping off and totally befuddling the constantly failing demon, who somehow or other never lost confidence in himself. Seen without envy or quarrelsomeness, the Lord’s pastimes are immensely entertaining.
