Mahārāja Yudhiṣṭhira inquired: It is very wonderful that the demon Śiśupāla merged into the body of the Supreme Personality of Godhead even though extremely envious. This sāyujya-mukti is impossible to attain even for great transcendentalists. How then did the enemy of the Lord attain it?

Mahārāja Yudhiṣṭhira perguntou: É muito maravilhoso que o demônio Śiśupāla tenha imergido no corpo da Suprema Personalidade de Deus, muito embora esse demônio fosse extremamente invejoso. Nem mesmo grandes transcendentalistas são capazes de atingir esse sāyujya-mukti. Então, como foi que um inimigo do Senhor obteve isso?

Comentário

There are two classes of transcendentalists — the jñānīs and the bhaktas. The bhaktas do not aspire to merge into the existence of the Lord, but the jñānīs do. Śiśupāla, however, was neither a jñānī nor a bhakta, yet simply by envy of the Lord he attained an exalted position by merging into the Lord’s body. Certainly this was astonishing, and therefore Mahārāja Yudhiṣṭhira inquired about the cause for the Lord’s mysterious mercy to Śiśupāla.

SIGNIFICADO—Existem duas classes de transcendentalistas – os jñānīs e os bhaktas. Os bhaktas não desejam imergir na existência do Senhor, mas os jñānīs, sim. Śiśupāla, entretanto, não era nem jñānī nem bhakta. Porém, pelo simples fato de invejar o Senhor, ele alcançou a elevada posição de imergir no corpo do Senhor. Por certo que isso era espantoso, de modo que Mahārāja Yudhiṣṭhira perguntou sobre a causa da misteriosa misericórdia do Senhor para com Śiśupāla.
