Translation

Even the intelligent are bewildered in determining what is action and what is inaction. Now I shall explain to you what action is, knowing which you shall be liberated from all misfortune.

Selv de intelligente bliver forvirrede, når de skal afgøre, hvad der er handling, og hvad der er uvirksomhed. Nu skal Jeg forklare for dig, hvad handling er, så du ved at vide dette vil blive befriet for al modgang i livet.

Action in Kṛṣṇa consciousness has to be executed in accord with the examples of previous bona fide devotees. This is recommended in the fifteenth verse. Why such action should not be independent will be explained in the text to follow.

FORKLARING: Handling i Kṛṣṇa-bevidsthed skal ske i overensstemmelse med tidligere autoriserede hengivnes eksempler. Dette blev anbefalet i vers 15. Hvorfor en sådan handling ikke bør gøres uafhængigt, vil blive forklaret i den følgende tekst.

To act in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, one has to follow the leadership of authorized persons who are in a line of disciplic succession as explained in the beginning of this chapter. The system of Kṛṣṇa consciousness was first narrated to the sun-god, the sun-god explained it to his son Manu, Manu explained it to his son Ikṣvāku, and the system is current on this earth from that very remote time. Therefore, one has to follow in the footsteps of previous authorities in the line of disciplic succession. Otherwise even the most intelligent men will be bewildered regarding the standard actions of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. For this reason, the Lord decided to instruct Arjuna in Kṛṣṇa consciousness directly. Because of the direct instruction of the Lord to Arjuna, anyone who follows in the footsteps of Arjuna is certainly not bewildered.

For at kunne handle i Kṛṣṇa-bevidsthed må man lade sig vejlede af autoriserede personer, der tilhører en discipelrække, som det blev forklaret i begyndelsen af dette kapitel. Det Kṛṣṇa-bevidste system blev først forklaret for solguden, solguden berettede det til sin søn Manu, der forklarede det for sin søn Ikṣvāku, og systemet har været alment udbredt på denne jord lige siden denne fjerntliggende tid. Man må derfor følge i fodsporene på de tidligere autoriteter i discipelrækken, ellers vil selv de mest intelligente mennesker blive forvirrede, når det gælder standardaktiviteterne i Kṛṣṇa-bevidsthed. Af denne grund besluttede Herren Sig for at instruere Arjuna direkte i Kṛṣṇa-bevidsthed. It is said that one cannot ascertain the ways of religion simply by imperfect experimental knowledge. Actually, the principles of religion can only be laid down by the Lord Himself. Dharmaṁ tu sākṣād bhagavat-praṇītam (Bhāg. 6.3.19). No one can manufacture a religious principle by imperfect speculation. One must follow in the footsteps of great authorities like Brahmā, Śiva, Nārada, Manu, the Kumāras, Kapila, Prahlāda, Bhīṣma, Śukadeva Gosvāmī, Yamarāja, Janaka and Bali Mahārāja. By mental speculation one cannot ascertain what is religion or self-realization. Therefore, out of causeless mercy to His devotees, the Lord explains directly to Arjuna what action is and what inaction is. Only action performed in Kṛṣṇa consciousness can deliver a person from the entanglement of material existence.

Der står skrevet, at man ikke kan fastslå religionens veje gennem mangelfuld eksperimentel viden. I virkeligheden er det kun Herren Selv, der kan fastsætte religiøse principper. Dharmaṁ tu sākṣād bhagavat- praṇītam (ŚB. 6.3.19). Ingen kan fastlægge et religiøst princip igennem ufuldkommen spekulation. Man bliver nødt til at følge i fodsporene på store autoriteter som Brahmā, Śiva, Nārada, Manu, Kumāraerne, Kapila, Prahlāda, Bhīṣma, Śukadeva Gosvāmī, Yamarāja, Janaka og Bali Mahārāja. Man kan ikke finde ud af, hvad religion eller selverkendelse er, gennem intellektuel spekulation. Af Sin årsagsløse nåde mod Sine hengivne forklarer Herren derfor for Arjuna, hvad handling er, og hvad uvirksomhed er. Kun handling i Kṛṣṇa-bevidsthed kan befri en person fra indviklingen i den materielle tilværelse.
