Lord Śiva’s lotus feet were worshiped by both the demigods and demons, but still, in spite of his exalted position, as soon as he saw that Lord Brahmā was there among all the other demigods, he immediately stood up and offered him respect by bowing down and touching his lotus feet, just as Vāmanadeva offered His respectful obeisances to Kaśyapa Muni.

Os pés de lótus do senhor Śiva eram adorados tanto pelos semideuses quanto pelos demônios, mas, ainda assim, apesar de sua posição elevada, ao ver que o senhor Brahmā estava entre todos os demais semideuses, ele se levantou imediatamente e ofereceu-lhe respeito, prostrando-se e tocando-lhe os pés de lótus, assim como Vāmanadeva ofereceu Suas respeitosas reverências a Kaśyapa Muni.

Comentário

Kaśyapa Muni was in the category of the living entities, but he had a transcendental son, Vāmanadeva, who was an incarnation of Viṣṇu. Thus although Lord Viṣṇu is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He offered His respects to Kaśyapa Muni. Similarly, when Lord Kṛṣṇa was a child He used to offer His respectful obeisances to His mother and father, Nanda and Yaśodā. Also, at the Battle of Kurukṣetra, Lord Kṛṣṇa touched the feet of Mahārāja Yudhiṣṭhira because the King was His elder. It appears, then, that the Personality of Godhead, Lord Śiva and other devotees, in spite of their being situated in exalted positions, instructed by practical example how to offer obeisances to their superiors. Lord Śiva offered his respectful obeisances to Brahmā because Brahmā was his father, just as Kaśyapa Muni was the father of Vāmana.

SIGNIFICADO—Kaśyapa Muni estava na categoria das entidades vivas, mas tinha um filho transcendental, Vāmanadeva, que era uma encarnação de Viṣṇu. Assim, embora o Senhor Viṣṇu seja a Suprema Personalidade de Deus, Ele ofereceu Seus respeitos a Kaśyapa Muni. Do mesmo modo, quando o Senhor Kṛṣṇa era criança, Ele costumava oferecer Suas respeitosas reverências a Sua mãe e a Seu pai, Nanda e Yaśodā. Também, na Guerra de Kurukṣetra, o Senhor Kṛṣṇa tocou os pés de Mahārāja Yudhiṣṭhira porque o rei era mais velho do que Ele. Parece, então, que a Personalidade de Deus, o senhor Śiva e outros devotos, apesar de estarem situados em posições elevadas, ensinaram, através do exemplo prático, a oferecer reverências a seus superiores. O senhor Śiva ofereceu suas respeitosas reverências a Brahmā porque Brahmā era seu pai, assim como Kaśyapa Muni era pai de Vāmanadeva.
