yāvat sañjāyate kiñcit
sattvaṁ sthāvara-jaṅgamam
kṣetra-kṣetrajña-saṁyogāt
tad viddhi bharatarṣabha

Translation

Ó principal entre os Bhāratas, fique sabendo que tudo o que existe, seja móvel ou imóvel, é apenas uma combinação do campo de atividades e do conhecedor do campo.

O chief of the Bhāratas, know that whatever you see in existence, both the moving and the nonmoving, is only a combination of the field of activities and the knower of the field.

Este verso explica tanto a natureza material quanto a entidade viva, que já existiam antes da criação do cosmos. Tudo o que é criado é uma mera combinação da entidade viva com a natureza material. Há muitas manifestações, tais como as árvores, as montanhas e as colinas, que não são móveis, e há muitas existências que são móveis, e todas elas não passam de combinações da natureza material com a natureza superior, a entidade viva. Sem o contato da natureza superior, que é a entidade viva, nada pode crescer. A relação entre a natureza material e a natureza espiritual se dá eternamente, e esta combinação é efetuada pelo Senhor Supremo, por isso, Ele é o controlador das naturezas inferior e superior. A natureza material é criada por Ele, e a natureza superior é colocada nesta natureza material, e assim acontecem todas essas atividades e manifestações.

Both material nature and the living entity, which were existing before the creation of the cosmos, are explained in this verse. Whatever is created is but a combination of the living entity and material nature. There are many manifestations like trees, mountains and hills which are not moving, and there are many existences which are moving, and all of them are but combinations of material nature and the superior nature, the living entity. Without the touch of the superior nature, the living entity, nothing can grow. The relationship between material nature and spiritual nature is eternally going on, and this combination is effected by the Supreme Lord; therefore He is the controller of both the superior and inferior natures. The material nature is created by Him, and the superior nature is placed in this material nature, and thus all these activities and manifestations take place.
