ātmānaṁ kevalaṁ tu yaḥ
paśyaty akṛta-buddhitvān
na sa paśyati durmatiḥ

Translation

Wie zich niet bewust is van deze vijf factoren, maar denkt dat alleen hij het is die handelt, is daarom allerminst intelligent en kan de dingen niet zien zoals ze zijn.

Therefore one who thinks himself the only doer, not considering the five factors, is certainly not very intelligent and cannot see things as they are.

Purport

Een dwaas persoon kan niet begrijpen dat de Superziel vanbinnen aanwezig is als een vriend die zijn activiteiten bestuurt. Ook al zijn de plaats, de handelende persoon, de inspanning en de zintuigen de materiële oorzaken, de uiteindelijke oorzaak is de Allerhoogste, de Persoonlijkheid Gods. Men moet daarom niet alleen de vier materiële oorzaken zien, maar ook de allerhoogste werkende oorzaak. Wie de Allerhoogste niet ziet, denkt dat hij het zelf is die handelt.

A foolish person cannot understand that the Supersoul is sitting as a friend within and conducting his actions. Although the material causes are the place, the worker, the endeavor and the senses, the final cause is the Supreme, the Personality of Godhead. Therefore, one should see not only the four material causes but the supreme efficient cause as well. One who does not see the Supreme thinks himself to be the doer.
