na hi deha-bhṛtā śakyaṁ
tyaktuṁ karmāṇy aśeṣataḥ
yas tu karma-phala-tyāgī
sa tyāgīty abhidhīyate

Translation

Het is een feit dat belichaamde wezens onmogelijk alle activiteiten kunnen opgeven. Maar hij die zich van de vruchten van zijn activiteiten onthecht, wordt als werkelijk onthecht beschouwd.

It is indeed impossible for an embodied being to give up all activities. But he who renounces the fruits of action is called one who has truly renounced.

In de Bhagavad-gītā wordt gezegd dat men activiteiten nooit ofte nimmer kan opgeven. Wie actief is voor Kṛṣṇa, alles aan Kṛṣṇa offert en niet van de resultaten geniet, is daarom werkelijk onthecht. Er zijn veel leden van de Internationale Gemeenschap voor Kṛṣṇa-bewustzijn die zeer hard werken in hun kantoor of in een fabriek of ergens anders en die alles wat ze verdienen aan de Gemeenschap schenken. Zulke verheven zielen zijn in feite sannyāsī’s en bevinden zich in de onthechte levensorde. Hier wordt duidelijk aangegeven hoe men zich van de vruchten van zijn werk kan onthechten en ook voor welk doel men zich daarvan moet onthechten.

It is said in Bhagavad-gītā that one can never give up work at any time. Therefore he who works for Kṛṣṇa and does not enjoy the fruitive results, who offers everything to Kṛṣṇa, is actually a renouncer. There are many members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness who work very hard in their office or in the factory or some other place, and whatever they earn they give to the Society. Such highly elevated souls are actually sannyāsīs and are situated in the renounced order of life. It is clearly outlined here how to renounce the fruits of work and for what purpose fruits should be renounced.
