maharṣīṇāṁ bhṛgur ahaṁ
girām asmy ekam akṣaram
yajñānāṁ japa-yajño ’smi
sthāvarāṇāṁ himālayaḥ

Onder de grote wijzen ben Ik Bhṛgu; van alle geluidsvibraties ben Ik het transcendentale oṁ; van alle offers ben Ik het chanten van de heilige namen [japa], en van onverplaatsbare dingen ben Ik het Himālaya-gebergte.

Of the great sages I am Bhṛgu; of vibrations I am the transcendental oṁ. Of sacrifices I am the chanting of the holy names [japa], and of immovable things I am the Himālayas.

Brahmā, het eerste levend wezen in het universum, schiep een aantal zonen om verschillende levenssoorten voort te brengen. Onder deze zonen is Bṛghu de machtigste wijze. Van alle transcendentale geluidsvibraties wordt Kṛṣṇa vertegenwoordigd door oṁ (oṁkāra). Van alle offers wordt Kṛṣṇa het zuiverst vertegenwoordigd door het chanten van Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. Soms wordt het offeren van dieren aangeraden, maar in het offer van Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa is er geen sprake van geweld. Het is het eenvoudigste en het zuiverste offer.

Alles wat in de werelden verheven is, vertegenwoordigt Kṛṣṇa. Het Himālaya-gebergte, het grootste gebergte ter wereld, vertegenwoordigt daarom ook Kṛṣṇa. De berg Meru, die in een vorig vers genoemd werd, beweegt soms, terwijl de Himālaya’s nooit bewegen. De Himālaya’s zijn daarom grootser dan Meru.

Brahmā, the first living creature within the universe, created several sons for the propagation of various kinds of species. Among these sons, Bhṛgu is the most powerful sage. Of all the transcendental vibrations, oṁ (oṁ-kāra) represents Kṛṣṇa. Of all sacrifices, the chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare is the purest representation of Kṛṣṇa. Sometimes animal sacrifices are recommended, but in the sacrifice of Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, there is no question of violence. It is the simplest and the purest. Whatever is sublime in the worlds is a representation of Kṛṣṇa. Therefore the Himālayas, the greatest mountains in the world, also represent Him. The mountain named Meru was mentioned in a previous verse, but Meru is sometimes movable, whereas the Himālayas are never movable. Thus the Himālayas are greater than Meru.
