sa ghoṣo dhārtarāṣṭrāṇāṁ

Translation

Het schallen van al deze hoornschelpen werd overweldigend en terwijl het weergalmde in de lucht en op de aarde, verscheurde het de harten van de zonen van Dhṛtarāṣṭra.

The blowing of these different conchshells became uproarious. Vibrating both in the sky and on the earth, it shattered the hearts of the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra.

Purport

Toen Bhīṣma en de anderen aan de zijde van Duryodhana op hun hoornschelpen bliezen, was er aan de kant van de Pāṇḍava’s geen sprake van brekende harten. Zulke gebeurtenissen worden niet vermeld, maar in dit specifieke vers wordt gezegd dat de harten van de zonen van Dhṛtarāṣṭra verscheurd werden door het geluid dat de Pāṇḍava’s voortbrachten. Dit kwam door de Pāṇḍava’s en hun vertrouwen in Heer Kṛṣṇa. Wie zijn toevlucht bij de Allerhoogste Heer zoekt, heeft niets te vrezen, zelfs niet te midden van de grootste ellende.

When Bhīṣma and the others on the side of Duryodhana blew their respective conchshells, there was no heart-breaking on the part of the Pāṇḍavas. Such occurrences are not mentioned, but in this particular verse it is mentioned that the hearts of the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra were shattered by the sounds vibrated by the Pāṇḍavas’ party. This is due to the Pāṇḍavas and their confidence in Lord Kṛṣṇa. One who takes shelter of the Supreme Lord has nothing to fear, even in the midst of the greatest calamity.
