nūnaṁ vimuṣṭa-matayas tava māyayā te
ye tvāṁ bhavāpyaya-vimokṣaṇam anya-hetoḥ
arcanti kalpaka-taruṁ kuṇapopabhogyam
icchanti yat sparśajaṁ niraye ’pi nṝṇām

Translation

En verdad que aquellos que Te adoran simplemente por la complacencia de los sentidos de esta bolsa de piel están bajo la influencia de Tu energía ilusoria. A pesar de tenerte a Ti, que eres como un árbol de deseos y la causa de la liberación del ciclo de nacimientos y muertes, los necios como yo desean Tus bendiciones para la complacencia de los sentidos, que está al alcance incluso de los que viven en condiciones infernales.

Persons who worship You simply for the sense gratification of this bag of skin are certainly influenced by Your illusory energy. In spite of having You, who are like a desire tree and are the cause of liberation from birth and death, foolish persons, such as me, desire benedictions from You for sense gratification, which is available even for those who live in hellish conditions.

Purport

Dhruva Mahārāja estaba arrepentido de haberse dirigido al Señor para ofrecerle servicio devocional en busca de un beneficio material. En este verso rechaza su actitud. Solo la más absoluta falta de conocimiento puede llevar a alguien a adorar al Señor en busca de ganancia material o de complacencia de los sentidos. El Señor es como un árbol de deseos. Aunque todo el mundo puede obtener de Él lo que desee, la gente no sabe qué tipo de bendición debe pedirle. La felicidad que viene de la sensación táctil de la piel, es decir, la felicidad sensual, se encuentra incluso en la vida de los cerdos y los perros. Es una felicidad muy insignificante. Si un devoto adora al Señor en busca de esa felicidad insignificante, debe considerarse que carece por completo de conocimiento.

Dhruva Mahārāja repented because he had come to the Lord to render devotional service for material profit. He here condemns his attitude. Only due to gross lack of knowledge does one worship the Lord for material profit or for sense gratification. The Lord is like a desire tree. Anyone can have whatever he desires from the Lord, but people in general do not know what kind of benediction they should ask from Him. Happiness derived from the touch of skin, or sensuous happiness, is present in the life of hogs and dogs. Such happiness is very insignificant. If a devotee worships the Lord for such insignificant happiness, he must be considered devoid of all knowledge.
