Comprensión de la naturaleza material

Understanding Material Nature

Text 1:: La Personalidad de Dios, Kapila, continuó: Cuando la entidad viviente, a pesar de morar en un cuerpo material, es inmutable y no pretende ningún tipo de propiedad, y debido a ello está libre de la influencia de las modalidades de la naturaleza material, no la afectan las reacciones de las modalidades, tal como al sol no lo afecta su propio reflejo en el agua.

Text 1:: The Personality of Godhead Kapila continued: When the living entity is thus unaffected by the modes of material nature, because he is unchanging and does not claim proprietorship, he remains apart from the reactions of the modes, although abiding in a material body, just as the sun remains aloof from its reflection on water.

Text 2:: Cuando el alma está bajo el hechizo de la naturaleza material y del ego falso, e identifica su ser con el cuerpo, se absorbe en actividades materiales, y por la influencia del ego falso, cree que es propietario de todo.

Text 2:: When the soul is under the spell of material nature and false ego, identifying his body as the self, he becomes absorbed in material activities, and by the influence of false ego he thinks that he is the proprietor of everything.

Text 3:: En consecuencia, el alma condicionada transmigra a diversas especies de vida, superiores e inferiores, como resultado de su relación con las modalidades de la naturaleza material. A menos que se libere de las actividades materiales, tiene que aceptar esa posición debido a sus actividades imperfectas.

Text 3:: The conditioned soul therefore transmigrates into different species of life, higher and lower, because of his association with the modes of material nature. Unless he is relieved of material activities, he has to accept this position because of his faulty work.

Text 4:: En realidad, la entidad viviente es trascendental a la existencia material, pero debido a su mentalidad de dominio sobre la naturaleza material, sigue en su condición material de existencia, y, como en un sueño, se ve afectada por todo tipo de inconvenientes.

Text 4:: Actually a living entity is transcendental to material existence, but because of his mentality of lording it over material nature, his material existential condition does not cease, and just as in a dream, he is affected by all sorts of disadvantages.

Text 5:: El deber de toda alma condicionada es hacer que su conciencia contaminada, apegada ahora al disfrute material, se ocupe en servicio devocional, con gran seriedad y con desapego. De este modo, su mente y su conciencia estarán completamente bajo control.

Text 5:: It is the duty of every conditioned soul to engage his polluted consciousness, which is now attached to material enjoyment, in very serious devotional service with detachment. Thus his mind and consciousness will be under full control.

Text 6:: Hay que fortalecer la fe practicando el proceso de control del sistema de yoga, y hay que elevarse hasta el nivel de servicio devocional sin mezclas cantando y escuchando acerca de Mí.

Text 6:: One has to become faithful by practicing the controlling process of the yoga system and must elevate himself to the platform of unalloyed devotional service by chanting and hearing about Me.

Text 7:: El practicante de servicio devocional debe tener una visión ecuánime de todas las entidades vivientes, sin enemistad hacia nadie, pero también sin lazos íntimos de unión con nadie. Debe guardar celibato, ser grave y ejecutar sus actividades eternas, ofreciendo los resultados a la Suprema Personalidad de Dios.

Text 7:: In executing devotional service, one has to see every living entity equally, without enmity towards anyone yet without intimate connections with anyone. One has to observe celibacy, be grave and execute his eternal activities, offering the results to the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Text 8:: En cuestión de ingresos, el devoto debe estar satisfecho con lo que gane sin demasiado esfuerzo. No debe comer más de lo necesario. Debe vivir en un lugar apartado, y siempre debe ser reflexivo, pacífico, amistoso, compasivo y autorrealizado.

Text 8:: For his income a devotee should be satisfied with what he earns without great difficulty. He should not eat more than what is necessary. He should live in a secluded place and always be thoughtful, peaceful, friendly, compassionate and self-realized.

Text 9:: El devoto debe perfeccionar su visión mediante el conocimiento de la materia y del espíritu, y evitar identificarse innecesariamente con el cuerpo y, de este modo, verse atraído por las relaciones corporales.

Text 9:: One’s seeing power should be increased through knowledge of spirit and matter, and one should not unnecessarily identify himself with the body and thus become attracted by bodily relationships.

Text 10:: Hay que establecerse en la posición trascendental, más allá de los estados de conciencia material, y separarse de cualquier otro concepto de la vida. De este modo, liberándose del ego falso mediante la comprensión práctica, uno debe ver su propio ser tal como ve el sol en el cielo.

Text 10:: One should be situated in the transcendental position, beyond the stages of material consciousness, and should be aloof from all other conceptions of life. Thus realizing freedom from false ego, one should see his own self just as he sees the sun in the sky.

Text 11:: El alma liberada percibe a la Absoluta Personalidad de Dios, que es trascendental y que Se manifiesta como un reflejo incluso en el ego falso. Él es el soporte de la causa material, y entra en todo. Él es absoluto, uno sin par, y es los ojos de la energía ilusoria.

Text 11:: A liberated soul realizes the Absolute Personality of Godhead, who is transcendental and who is manifest as a reflection even in the false ego. He is the support of the material cause and He enters into everything. He is absolute, one without a second, and He is the eyes of the illusory energy.

Text 12:: La presencia del Señor Supremo se puede percibir tal como se percibe el sol: primero, como un reflejo en el agua, y, de nuevo, como un segundo reflejo en la pared de una habitación, aunque el sol propiamente dicho está situado en el cielo.

Text 12:: The presence of the Supreme Lord can be realized just as the sun is realized first as a reflection on water, and again as a second reflection on the wall of a room, although the sun itself is situated in the sky.

Text 13:: De este modo, el alma autorrealizada se refleja primero en el ego triple, y luego en el cuerpo, los sentidos y la mente.

Text 13:: The self-realized soul is thus reflected first in the threefold ego and then in the body, senses and mind.

Text 14:: El devoto, aunque parezca fusionado con los cinco elementos materiales, los objetos del disfrute material, los sentidos materiales y la mente e inteligencia materiales, debe entenderse que está despierto y liberado del ego falso.

Text 14:: Although a devotee appears to be merged in the five material elements, the objects of material enjoyment, the material senses and material mind and intelligence, he is understood to be awake and to be freed from the false ego.

Text 15:: El ser viviente puede tener una sensación nítida de su existencia como observador, pero durante el estado de sueño profundo, debido a la desaparición del ego, falsamente se considera perdido, como el hombre que ha perdido su fortuna y está afligido, creyendo que es él mismo lo perdido.

Text 15:: The living entity can vividly feel his existence as the seer, but because of the disappearance of the ego during the state of deep sleep, he falsely takes himself to be lost, like a man who has lost his fortune and feels distressed, thinking himself to be lost.

Text 16:: Cuando el devoto, habiendo madurado en conocimiento, puede comprender su individualidad, ve claramente la situación en que se pone bajo la influencia del ego falso.

Text 16:: When, by mature understanding, one can realize his individuality, then the situation he accepts under false ego becomes manifest to him.

Text 17:: Śrī Devahūti preguntó: Mi querido brāhmaṇa, ¿deja libre alguna vez la naturaleza material al alma espiritual? Estando eternamente atraídas la una por la otra, ¿cómo es posible que se separen?

Text 17:: Śrī Devahūti inquired: My dear brāhmaṇa, does material nature ever give release to the spirit soul? Since one is attracted to the other eternally, how is their separation possible?

Text 18:: Tal como la tierra y su aroma, o el agua y su sabor, no pueden existir por separado, no es posible que la inteligencia y la conciencia existan separadamente.

Text 18:: As there is no separate existence of the earth and its aroma or of water and its taste, there cannot be any separate existence of intelligence and consciousness.

Text 19:: Entonces, aunque el alma sea el ejecutor pasivo de todas las actividades, ¿cómo puede tener libertad mientras la naturaleza material actúe sobre ella y la tenga sujeta?

Text 19:: Hence even though he is the passive performer of all activities, how can there be freedom for the soul as long as material nature acts on him and binds him?

Text 20:: El gran temor al cautiverio, aunque se evite por medio de la especulación mental y el estudio de los principios fundamentales, puede todavía presentarse de nuevo, porque su causa no ha desaparecido.

Text 20:: Even if the great fear of bondage is avoided by mental speculation and inquiry into the fundamental principles, it may still appear again, since its cause has not ceased.

Text 21:: La Suprema Personalidad de Dios dijo: Aquel que se empeñe seriamente en Mi servicio devocional, y por ello Me escuche o escuche acerca de Mí durante mucho tiempo, puede obtener la liberación. Quien ejecute de este modo sus deberes prescritos, no sufrirá reacciones, y se liberará de la contaminación de la materia.

Text 21:: The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: One can get liberation by seriously discharging devotional service unto Me and thereby hearing for a long time about Me or from Me. By thus executing one’s prescribed duties, there will be no reaction, and one will be freed from the contamination of matter.

Text 22:: La ejecución de este servicio devocional debe ser intensa, con conocimiento perfecto y con visión trascendental. A fin de absorberse firmemente en el ser, el devoto debe ser profundamente renunciado, y debe ocuparse en austeridades y ejecutar yoga místico.

Text 22:: This devotional service has to be performed strongly in perfect knowledge and with transcendental vision. One must be strongly renounced and must engage in austerity and perform mystic yoga in order to be firmly fixed in self-absorption.

Text 23:: La naturaleza material ha cubierto con su influencia a la entidad viviente, y de ese modo, es como si la entidad viviente estuviese siempre en un fuego ardiente. Pero el proceso de ocuparse seriamente en servicio devocional puede eliminar esta influencia, del mismo modo que las astillas de madera, que son la causa del fuego, son consumidas por él.

Text 23:: The influence of material nature has covered the living entity, and thus it is as if the living entity were always in a blazing fire. But by the process of seriously discharging devotional service, this influence can be removed, just as wooden sticks which cause a fire are themselves consumed by it.

Text 24:: Cuando descubre la imperfección de su deseo de enseñorearse de la naturaleza material, y en consecuencia, lo abandona, la entidad viviente obtiene la independencia y se sitúa en su propia gloria.

Text 24:: By discovering the faultiness of his desiring to lord it over material nature and by therefore giving it up, the living entity becomes independent and stands in his own glory.

Text 25:: Cuando soñamos, nuestra conciencia está prácticamente cubierta, y vemos muchas cosas poco auspiciosas, pero cuando despertamos y estamos plenamente conscientes, esas cosas desfavorables no nos pueden confundir.

Text 25:: In the dreaming state one’s consciousness is almost covered, and one sees many inauspicious things, but when he is awakened and fully conscious, such inauspicious things cannot bewilder him.

Text 26:: La naturaleza material no puede dañar con su influencia a un alma iluminada, aunque se ocupe en actividades materiales, pues conoce la verdad del Absoluto, y su mente está fija en la Suprema Personalidad de Dios.

Text 26:: The influence of material nature cannot harm an enlightened soul, even though he engages in material activities, because he knows the truth of the Absolute, and his mind is fixed on the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Text 27:: Cuando una persona se ocupa de este modo en servicio devocional y en la autorrealización durante muchísimos años y muchísimas vidas, se vuelve completamente reacia a disfrutar de cualquiera de los planetas materiales, incluyendo Brahmaloka, el planeta más elevado; su conciencia alcanza la perfección completa.

Text 27:: When a person thus engages in devotional service and self-realization for many, many years and births, he becomes completely reluctant to enjoy any one of the material planets, even up to the highest planet, which is known as Brahmaloka; he becomes fully developed in consciousness.

Texts 28-29:: Mi devoto se vuelve verdaderamente autorrealizado por Mi ilimitada misericordia sin causa; de este modo, cuando se libera de todas las dudas, hace constantes progresos hacia la morada que le está destinada, que se encuentra directamente bajo la protección de Mi energía espiritual de bienaventuranza sin mezcla. Ese es el objetivo final de la entidad viviente en su perfeccionamiento. Después de abandonar el cuerpo material que ahora tiene, el devoto místico va a esa morada trascendental, y nunca regresa.

Texts 28-29:: My devotee actually becomes self-realized by My unlimited causeless mercy, and thus, when freed from all doubts, he steadily progresses towards his destined abode, which is directly under the protection of My spiritual energy of unadulterated bliss. That is the ultimate perfectional goal of the living entity. After giving up the present material body, the mystic devotee goes to that transcendental abode and never comes back.

Text 30:: Cuando los poderes místicos, que son manifestaciones de la energía externa y subproductos del yoga, dejan de atraer su atención, el yogī perfecto avanza hacia Mí sin obstrucción alguna, de modo que el poder de la muerte no puede subyugarlo.

Text 30:: When a perfect yogī’s attention is no longer attracted to the by-products of mystic powers, which are manifestations of the external energy, his progress towards Me becomes unlimited, and thus the power of death cannot overcome him.
