evaṁ sambhāṣya bhagavān
nārado vāsavī-sutam
āmantrya vīṇāṁ raṇayan
yayau yādṛcchiko muniḥ

Translation

Sūta Gosvāmī dijo: Dirigiéndose así a Vyāsadeva, Śrīla Nārada Muni se despidió de él y, vibrando su instrumento llamado vīṇā, se fue a errar a su libre albedrío.

Sūta Gosvāmī said: Thus addressing Vyāsadeva, Śrīla Nārada Muni took leave of him, and vibrating on his vīṇā instrument, he left to wander at his free will.

Purport

Todo ser viviente está ansioso de tener plena libertad, porque eso constituye su naturaleza trascendental. Y esa libertad únicamente se obtiene a través del trascendental servicio del Señor. Engañado por la energía externa, todo el mundo cree que es libre, pero en realidad está atado por las leyes de la naturaleza. Un alma condicionada no puede moverse libremente de un lugar a otro ni siquiera en esta Tierra, ¡ni hablar de que pueda hacerlo de un planeta a otro! Pero un alma totalmente liberada, tal como lo es Nārada, siempre dedicada a cantar las glorias del Señor, es libre de moverse no solo en la Tierra, sino también en cualquier parte del universo, así como también en cualquier parte del cielo espiritual. Podemos tan solo imaginarnos el alcance y lo ilimitado de su libertad, que es prácticamente igual a la del Señor Supremo. Él no realiza sus viajes por alguna razón u obligación, y nadie puede impedirle su libre movimiento. Igualmente, el trascendental sistema de servicio devocional también es libre. Puede o no desarrollarse en alguna persona en particular, incluso después de que esta se haya sometido a todas las fórmulas detalladas. De modo similar, la asociación del devoto también es libre. Puede que uno tenga la fortuna de poseerla, o puede que no la posea ni siquiera después de miles de esfuerzos. Por consiguiente, en todas las esferas del servicio devocional, la libertad es el eje fundamental. Sin libertad no hay ejecución de servicio devocional. Que el devoto le entregue su libertad al Señor no significa que se vuelve dependiente en todos los aspectos. Entregarse al Señor a través del medio transparente del maestro espiritual es alcanzar una vida de completa libertad.

Every living being is anxious for full freedom because that is his transcendental nature. And this freedom is obtained only through the transcendental service of the Lord. Illusioned by the external energy, everyone thinks that he is free, but actually he is bound up by the laws of nature. A conditioned soul cannot freely move from one place to another even on this earth, and what to speak of one planet to another. But a full-fledged free soul like Nārada, always engaged in chanting the Lord’s glory, is free to move not only on earth but also in any part of the universe, as well as in any part of the spiritual sky. We can just imagine the extent and unlimitedness of his freedom, which is as good as that of the Supreme Lord. There is no reason or obligation for his traveling, and no one can stop him from his free movement. Similarly, the transcendental system of devotional service is also free. It may or may not develop in a particular person even after he undergoes all the detailed formulas. Similarly, the association of the devotee is also free. One may be fortunate to have it, or one may not have it even after thousands of endeavors. Therefore, in all spheres of devotional service, freedom is the main pivot. Without freedom there is no execution of devotional service. The freedom surrendered to the Lord does not mean that the devotee becomes dependent in every respect. To surrender unto the Lord through the transparent medium of the spiritual master is to attain complete freedom of life.
