Translation

Traducción

In return for King Indra’s benediction that ditches in the earth would be filled automatically, the land accepted one fourth of the sinful reactions for killing a brāhmaṇa. Because of those sinful reactions, we find many deserts on the surface of the earth.

La Tierra, para agradecer la bendición de Indra de que toda fosa excavada en ella se llenaría de agua por sí sola, aceptó la cuarta parte de las reacciones del pecado de matar a un brāhmaṇa. Debido a esas reacciones, hallamos multitud de desiertos en la superficie del planeta.

Purport

Significado

Because deserts are manifestations of the earth’s diseased condition, no auspicious ritualistic ceremony can be performed in a desert. Persons destined to live in deserts are understood to be sharing the reactions for the sin of brahma-hatyā, the killing of a brāhmaṇa.

Los desiertos son manifestaciones de la condición enferma de la Tierra; por esa razón, en ellos no se puede celebrar ninguna ceremonia ritual auspiciosa. Las personas destinadas a vivir en los desiertos participan de las reacciones del pecado de matar a un brāhmaṇa, brahma-hatyā.
