धूमो रात्रिस्तथा कृष्ण: षण्मासा दक्षिणायनम् ।
तत्र चान्द्रमसं ज्योतिर्योगी प्राप्य निवर्तते ॥ २५ ॥

ṣaṇ-māsā dakṣiṇāyanam
tatra cāndramasaṁ jyotir
yogī prāpya nivartate

Synonyms

dhūmaḥ — smoke; rātriḥ — night; tathā — also; kṛṣṇaḥ — the fortnight of the dark moon; ṣaṭ-māsāḥ — the six months; dakṣiṇa-ayanam — when the sun passes on the southern side; tatra — there; cāndramasam — the moon planet; jyotiḥ — the light; yogī — the mystic; prāpya — achieving; nivartate — comes back.

dhūmaḥ: la brume; rātriḥ: la nuit; tathā: aussi; kṛṣṇaḥ: la quinzaine où la lune s’assombrit; ṣaṭ-māsāḥ: les six mois; dakṣiṇa-ayanam: où le soleil passe au sud; tatra: là; cāndra masam: la lune; jyotiḥ: la lumière; yogī: le yogī mystique; prāpya: atteignant; nivartate: revient.

Translation

The mystic who passes away from this world during the smoke, the night, the fortnight of the waning moon, or the six months when the sun passes to the south reaches the moon planet but again comes back.

S’il part dans la brume, la nuit, pendant les quinze jours du déclin de la lune ou durant les six mois de soleil austral, le yogī atteindra l’astre lunaire, mais devra tout de même revenir sur terre.

Purport

In the Third Canto of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam Kapila Muni mentions that those who are expert in fruitive activities and sacrificial methods on earth attain to the moon at death. These elevated souls live on the moon for about 10,000 years (by demigod calculations) and enjoy life by drinking soma-rasa. They eventually return to earth. This means that on the moon there are higher classes of living beings, though they may not be perceived by the gross senses.

Dans le troisième Chant du Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, Kapila Muni nous apprend que ceux qui, sur terre, s’adonnent aux rituels d’oblations et aux bonnes œuvres atteignent la lune après leur mort. S’étant ainsi élevés, ils y vivent pendant quelque 10000 ans (selon la mesure des devas) et jouissent de la vie en buvant le soma-rasa. Néanmoins, un jour ou l’autre, ils doivent retourner sur terre. Ceci suggère qu’il existe des êtres sur la lune, supérieurs à ceux qui habitent la terre, bien que nos sens grossiers ne puissent les percevoir.
