Arjuna said: O descendant of Vṛṣṇi, by what is one impelled to sinful acts, even unwillingly, as if engaged by force?

Arjuna sagde: O Vṛṣṇis efterkommer, hvad er det, der driver én til syndige handlinger selv mod ens vilje, som om man var tvunget til at handle?

Purport

A living entity, as part and parcel of the Supreme, is originally spiritual, pure, and free from all material contaminations. Therefore, by nature he is not subject to the sins of the material world. But when he is in contact with the material nature, he acts in many sinful ways without hesitation, and sometimes even against his will. As such, Arjuna’s question to Kṛṣṇa is very sanguine, as to the perverted nature of the living entities. Although the living entity sometimes does not want to act in sin, he is still forced to act. Sinful actions are not, however, impelled by the Supersoul within, but are due to another cause, as the Lord explains in the next verse.

FORKLARING: Det levende væsen er som en uadskillelig del af den Højeste oprindelig åndeligt, rent og fri for enhver materiel forurening. Det ligger derfor ikke i dets natur at være underlagt den materielle verdens synder. Men i kontakt med den materielle natur handler man uden tøven på mange syndige måder, somme tider selv mod sin egen vilje. Arjunas spørgsmål til Kṛṣṇa om de levende væseners forvrængede natur er som sådan meget forståeligt. Selv om det levende væsen ikke altid ønsker at handle syndigt, bliver han alligevel tvunget til det. Det er imidlertid ikke Oversjælen, der ansporer os til syndige handlinger. Det skyldes en anden årsag, som det vil blive forklaret af Herren i næste vers.
