इन्द्रियाणां हि चरतां यन्मनोऽनुविधीयते ।
तदस्य हरति प्रज्ञां वायुर्नावमिवाम्भसि ॥ ६७ ॥

yan mano ’nuvidhīyate
tad asya harati prajñāṁ
vāyur nāvam ivāmbhasi
indriyāṇāṁ hi caratāṁ

tad asya harati prajñāṁ
vāyur nāvam ivāmbhasi

Synonyms

indriyāṇām — of the senses; hi — certainly; caratām — while roaming; yat — with which; manaḥ — the mind; anuvidhīyate — becomes constantly engaged; tat — that; asya — his; harati — takes away; prajñām — intelligence; vāyuḥ — wind; nāvam — a boat; iva — like; ambhasi — on the water.

indriyāṇām: des sens; hi: certes; caratām: débridés; yat: en lequel; manaḥ: le mental; anuvidhīyate: devient constamment absorbé; tat: cela; asya: son; harati: emporte; prajñām: intelligence; vāyuḥ: le vent; nāvam: un bateau; iva: comme; ambhasi: sur l’eau.

Translation

Translation

As a strong wind sweeps away a boat on the water, even one of the roaming senses on which the mind focuses can carry away a man’s intelligence.

Comme un vent violent balaye un bateau sur l’eau, il suffit qu’un seul des sens débridés capte l’attention du mental pour que l’intelligence soit emportée.

Purport

Unless all of the senses are engaged in the service of the Lord, even one of them engaged in sense gratification can deviate the devotee from the path of transcendental advancement. As mentioned in the life of Mahārāja Ambarīṣa, all of the senses must be engaged in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, for that is the correct technique for controlling the mind.

Il suffit qu’un seul de ses sens poursuive les plaisirs matériels pour que le spiritualiste dévie du sentier de la réalisation spirituelle. Il est donc essentiel que nous engagions, comme Mahārāja Ambarīṣa, tous nos sens au service du Seigneur. Tel est le véritable moyen de maîtriser le mental.
