भयाद्रणादुपरतं मंस्यन्ते त्वां महारथाः ।
येषां च त्वं बहुमतो भूत्वा यास्यसि लाघवम् ॥ ३५ ॥

maṁsyante tvāṁ mahā-rathāḥ
yeṣāṁ ca tvaṁ bahu-mato
bhūtvā yāsyasi lāghavam

bhayāt — out of fear; raṇāt — from the battlefield; uparatam — ceased; maṁsyante — they will consider; tvām — you; mahā-rathāḥ — the great generals; yeṣām — for whom; ca — also; tvam — you; bahu-mataḥ — in great estimation; bhūtvā — having been; yāsyasi — you will go; lāghavam — decreased in value.

bhayāt — af frygt; raṇāt — fra slagmarken; uparatam — ophørt; maṁsyante — de vil opfatte; tvām — dig; mahā-rathāḥ — de store generaler; yeṣām — for hvem; ca — også; tvam — du; bahu-mataḥ — i stor anseelse; bhūtvā — efter at have været; yāsyasi — du vil blive; lāghavam — forringet i værdi.

Translation

Translation

The great generals who have highly esteemed your name and fame will think that you have left the battlefield out of fear only, and thus they will consider you insignificant.

De store hærførere, der har prist dig i høje toner, vil tro, at du har forladt slagmarken af ren og skær frygt, og følgelig vil de ringeagte dig.

Purport

Lord Kṛṣṇa continued to give His verdict to Arjuna: “Do not think that the great generals like Duryodhana, Karṇa and other contemporaries will think that you have left the battlefield out of compassion for your brothers and grandfather. They will think that you have left out of fear for your life. And thus their high estimation of your personality will go to hell.”

FORKLARING: Herren Kṛṣṇa fortsatte med at afgive Sin kendelse til Arjuna: “Tro ikke, at de store generaler som Duryodhana, Karṇa og andre af dine jævnaldrende vil tro, du har forladt slaget af medfølelse med dine brødre og din bedstefader. De vil tro, at du har forladt kampen af frygt for dit liv, og således vil deres høje vurdering af din person gå til helvede.”
