अधर्मं धर्ममिति या मन्यते तमसावृता ।
सर्वार्थान्विपरीतांश्च बुद्धि: सा पार्थ तामसी ॥ ३२ ॥

Translation

Translation

That understanding which considers irreligion to be religion and religion to be irreligion, under the spell of illusion and darkness, and strives always in the wrong direction, O Pārtha, is in the mode of ignorance.

Quant à l’intelligence captive de l’illusion et des ténèbres, qui prend l’irréligion pour la religion et la religion pour l’irréligion et dirige tous ses efforts dans la mauvaise direction, cette intelligence, ô fils de Pṛthā, participe de l’ignorance.

Purport

Intelligence in the mode of ignorance is always working the opposite of the way it should. It accepts religions which are not actually religions and rejects actual religion. Men in ignorance understand a great soul to be a common man and accept a common man as a great soul. They think truth to be untruth and accept untruth as truth. In all activities they simply take the wrong path; therefore their intelligence is in the mode of ignorance.

Les hommes dont l’intelligence est conditionnée par l’ignorance agissent toujours à l’inverse de ce qu’il faudrait. Ils acceptent les fausses religions et rejettent la véritable. Ils prennent une grande âme pour une personne ordinaire et une personne ordinaire pour une grande âme. Ils pensent que la vérité est mensonge et que le mensonge est vérité. Dans tout ce qu’ils font, ils optent toujours pour la mauvaise voie.
