विधिहीनमसृष्टान्नं मन्‍त्रहीनमदक्षिणम् ।
श्रद्धाविरहितं यज्ञं तामसं परिचक्षते ॥ १३ ॥

vidhi-hīnam asṛṣṭānnaṁ
mantra-hīnam adakṣiṇam
śraddhā-virahitaṁ yajñaṁ
tāmasaṁ paricakṣate
비디-히남 아스리쉬딴남 vidhi-hīnam asṛṣṭānnaṁ
만뜨라-히남 아닥쉬남 mantra-hīnam adakṣiṇam
스랃다-비라히땀 야걈 śraddhā-virahitaṁ yajñaṁ
따마삼 빠리짝샤떼 tāmasaṁ paricakṣate

비디-히남: 경전적 지도 없이, 아스리쉬따-안남: 쁘라사담을 나누어 주지 않고, 만뜨라-히남: 베다 찬가를 구송하지 않고, 아닥쉬남: 성직자들에게 보답하지 않고, 스랃다: 믿음, 비라히땀: 없이, 야걈: 제사, 따마: 암성의 양태에 속하는, 빠리짝샤떼: 간주하다.

Translation

번역

Any sacrifice performed without regard for the directions of scripture, without distribution of prasādam [spiritual food], without chanting of Vedic hymns and remunerations to the priests, and without faith is considered to be in the mode of ignorance.

경전의 지시 사항들을 무시하고, 쁘라사담(영적 음식)을 나누어 주지 않고, 베다 찬가를 구송하지 않고, 성직자들에게 보답하지 않으며 믿음 없이 행하는 제사는 암성의 양태에 있는 것이니라.

Faith in the mode of darkness or ignorance is actually faithlessness. Sometimes people worship some demigod just to make money and then spend the money for recreation, ignoring the scriptural injunctions. Such ceremonial shows of religiosity are not accepted as genuine. They are all in the mode of darkness; they produce a demoniac mentality and do not benefit human society.

암성이나 무지에 있는 믿음은 사실 믿음이 없는 것이다. 때때로 사람들은 단지 돈을 벌기 위해 어떤 하위신들을 숭배하고, 그렇게 번 돈을 오락에 쓰며, 경전의 명령은 무시한다. 종교의식의 이러한 쇼를 진정한 종교로 받아들일 수 없다. 그것은 모두 암성에 있고 악마 같은 정신 상태를 불러일으키며 인간 사회에 도움 되지 않는다.
