Translation

After seeing this universal form, which I have never seen before, I am gladdened, but at the same time my mind is disturbed with fear. Therefore please bestow Your grace upon me and reveal again Your form as the Personality of Godhead, O Lord of lords, O abode of the universe.

Efter at have set denne universelle form, som jeg aldrig før har set, glædes jeg, men samtidig er mit sind forstyrret af frygt. Skænk mig derfor venligst Din nåde og vis mig atter Din form som Guddommens Personlighed, O alle herrers Herre, O universets bolig.

Arjuna is always in confidence with Kṛṣṇa because he is a very dear friend, and as a dear friend is gladdened by his friend’s opulence, Arjuna is very joyful to see that his friend Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and can show such a wonderful universal form. But at the same time, after seeing that universal form, he is afraid that he has committed so many offenses to Kṛṣṇa out of his unalloyed friendship. Thus his mind is disturbed out of fear, although he had no reason to fear. Arjuna therefore is asking Kṛṣṇa to show His Nārāyaṇa form, because He can assume any form. This universal form is material and temporary, as the material world is temporary. But in the Vaikuṇṭha planets He has His transcendental form with four hands as Nārāyaṇa. There are innumerable planets in the spiritual sky, and in each of them Kṛṣṇa is present by His plenary manifestations of different names. Thus Arjuna desired to see one of the forms manifest in the Vaikuṇṭha planets. Of course in each Vaikuṇṭha planet the form of Nārāyaṇa is four-handed, but the four hands hold different arrangements of symbols – the conchshell, mace, lotus and disc. According to the different hands these four things are held in, the Nārāyaṇas are variously named. All of these forms are one with Kṛṣṇa; therefore Arjuna requests to see His four-handed feature.

FORKLARING: Arjuna er altid fortrolig over for Kṛṣṇa, for han er en meget nær ven, og ligesom en nær ven glæder sig over sin vens rigdom, glæder det Arjuna meget at se, at hans ven Kṛṣṇa er Guddommens Højeste Personlighed og kan fremvise en sådan fantastisk universel form. Men efter at have set den universelle form er han på samme tid bange for i sit uforfalskede venskab at have begået så mange forseelser mod Kṛṣṇa. Hans sind forstyrres derfor af frygt, selv om han ikke har grund til at være bange. Arjuna anmoder derfor Kṛṣṇa om at vise Sin Nārāyaṇa-form, siden Han kan antage en hvilken som helst form. Denne universelle form er materiel og midlertidig, ligesom den materielle verden er midlertidig. På Vaikuṇṭha-planeterne har Han derimod Sin transcendentale Nārāyaṇa-form med fire arme. I den åndelige himmel er der utallige planeter, og Kṛṣṇa er til stede på hver eneste af dem igennem Sine fuldstændige manifestationer, der bærer forskellige navne. Således ville Arjuna gerne se en af de former, der er manifesteret på Vaikuṇṭha-planeterne. På Vaikuṇṭha-planeterne er Nārāyaṇa selvfølgelig firarmet, men i Sine hænder holder Han forskellige arrangementer af fire symboler, nemlig konkylien, stridskøllen, lotussen og diskossen. De forskellige Nārāyaṇaer har forskellige navne alt efter rækkefølgen, i hvilken disse fire forekommer i hænderne på Dem. Alle disse former er ét med Kṛṣṇa. Arjuna beder derfor om at få lov til at se Hans firarmede form.
