Then Bhīṣma, the great valiant grandsire of the Kuru dynasty, the grandfather of the fighters, blew his conchshell very loudly, making a sound like the roar of a lion, giving Duryodhana joy.

Тогда Бхишма, доблестный старейшина рода Куру, самый почтенный из собравшихся на Курукшетре воинов, громко затрубил в свою раковину, и ее звук, подобный львиному рыку, наполнил радостью сердце Дурьйодханы.

Комментарий

The grandsire of the Kuru dynasty could understand the inner meaning of the heart of his grandson Duryodhana, and out of his natural compassion for him he tried to cheer him by blowing his conchshell very loudly, befitting his position as a lion. Indirectly, by the symbolism of the conchshell, he informed his depressed grandson Duryodhana that he had no chance of victory in the battle, because the Supreme Lord Kṛṣṇa was on the other side. But still, it was his duty to conduct the fight, and no pains would be spared in that connection.

Старейшина рода Куру понял чувства и мысли своего внука Дурьйодханы. Испытывая к нему естественную жалость, Бхишма решил ободрить его и громко затрубил в раковину, как бы доказывая, что его недаром сравнивают со львом. С другой стороны, то, что он затрубил в раковину, было символично: тем самым он давал понять своему удрученному внуку Дурьйодхане, что у него нет шансов на победу в сражении, так как на стороне его врагов находится Верховный Господь, Кришна. Однако сам Бхишма, верный долгу, вступит в бой и будет сражаться, чего бы ему это ни стоило.
