tatraivaṁ sati kartāram
ātmānaṁ kevalaṁ tu yaḥ
paśyaty akṛta-buddhitvān
na sa paśyati durmatiḥ

tatra — dort; evam — so; sati — seiend; kartāram — der Handelnde; ātmānam — sich selbst; kevalam — einziger; tu — aber; yaḥ — jeder, der; paśyati — sieht; akṛta-buddhitvāt — aufgrund von Unintelligenz; na — niemals; saḥ — er; paśyati — sieht; durmatiḥ — töricht.

tatra — there; evam — thus; sati — being; kartāram — the worker; ātmānam — himself; kevalam — only; tu — but; yaḥ — anyone who; paśyati — sees; akṛta-buddhitvāt — due to unintelligence; na — never; saḥ — he; paśyati — sees; durmatiḥ — foolish.

Translation

Translation

Daher ist jemand, der sich für den alleinigen Handelnden hält und diese fünf Faktoren nicht in Betracht zieht, gewiß nicht sehr intelligent und kann die Dinge nicht so sehen, wie sie sind.

Therefore one who thinks himself the only doer, not considering the five factors, is certainly not very intelligent and cannot see things as they are.

ERLÄUTERUNG: Ein törichter Mensch kann nicht verstehen, daß die Überseele als Freund in seinem Innern weilt und seine Handlungen lenkt. Der Ort, der Ausführende, die Bemühung und die Sinne sind zwar die materiellen Ursachen, aber die endgültige Ursache ist der Höchste, die Persönlichkeit Gottes. Deshalb sollte man nicht nur die vier materiellen Ursachen sehen, sondern auch die höchste wirkende Ursache. Wer den Höchsten nicht sieht, hält sich selbst für den Handelnden.

A foolish person cannot understand that the Supersoul is sitting as a friend within and conducting his actions. Although the material causes are the place, the worker, the endeavor and the senses, the final cause is the Supreme, the Personality of Godhead. Therefore, one should see not only the four material causes but the supreme efficient cause as well. One who does not see the Supreme thinks himself to be the doer.
